I think we are fairly solid on defense after watching the last few games I think our biggest problem is at the s position the cb seem to be playing alot better even jason david has looked alot better our lb core is pretty strong to with vilma getting better every game I think we have the personel to get better except at the s position or maybe we just need a new Def corndinator

your right I think we have the personel I just think everyone blames our cb's and they are not the best but the last couple of weeks have shown us that thier not as bad as we think

New D cord and a safety in the first or second round.

I think we are in more need of a safety rather then a good def coordinator. I won't defend any of our 2nd corners, but all the big passing plays against us come from the left side with no safety help.

Yeah the free safety position is useless. We might benefit from playing with 10 guys so we don't rely on KK or JB to give any help over the top.

right but my question is is that bc we have bad safties that are out of position every week or bc the def cord put them in a bad position

The DC puts bad safeties in bad position. Let's go with that.

call me a hommer and I know it would never happen but I would love if saiban would go to the saints as a dc his is good on d but great with the db"s

The DC doesn't bite on PA, the FS usually does.

that would be the fault of the BAD SAFETY!! Maybe the DC can chime in every now in then with "HEY KK, WATCH THE PLAY ACTION" Everyone needs reminders every now and then.

quote:the fact is we don't need the FS to support so much in run stopping because our run defense is stout. So why do they continuously bite on play action, if a FS is not needed on run support. Is the DC not telling him, his main priority is to not get beat over the top?

The play where Bullocks and JD got beat over the top against Tampa, I thought Bullocks saw a TE or WR crossing over the middle but there was nothing. I am clueless on what the hell he was trying to accomplish on that play. It had to be a play-action pass (i don't remember exactly)

Safety is a top priority for the Saints this off season. It looks as though its going to have to be done via the 2009 draft b/c outside of Baltimore's Dawan Landry, there is no quality safeties available via FA....and the chances of the Ravens not resigning him are very slim.
IMO we need to draft 1 of these 5 safeties to go along with Harper.
My Top 5 Safeties
1)Taylor Mays, USC (superior athlete with great size & blazing speed)
2)Myron Rolle, Florida St (Rhodes Scholar award winner, will pass on the NFL...prolly going to be brain surgeon)
3)William Moore, Missouri (A ball hawk who can support the run and lay the wood)
4)Emanuel Cook, South Carolina ( He's an in the box safety who eliminates space in the passing game)
5)Derek Pegues, Mississippi State (great range and ball skills)

i think Brian Dawkins is set to be a FA. I wouldn't go in that direction though.
i agree but this three in this order. (but I also have only seen one game of TM)
1)William Moore, Missouri
2)Taylor Mays, USC
3)Derek Pegues, Mississippi State

I like Mays over Moore b/c when you watch him play you can just tell he's the best athlete on both sides of the field....dudes an absolute beast!
Yeah I left Dawkins out of the picture. Landry would be the only Safety worth going after in FA...b/c he's young and talented.
I don't want an old veteran. We need to draft a top rated safety...b/c history says that the top safeties in there draft class always make an immediate impact.
Here is a list I've posted before...it proves how well the top safeties in all the recent drafts have become quality NFL players immediatly.
Ed Reed - 2002
Sean Taylor - 2004 (RIP)
Bob Sanders - 2004
Dawan Landry - 2006 (was a fifth round pick)
Roman Harper - 2006 (had to represent)
LaRon Landry - 2007
Reggie Nelson - 2007
Kenny Phillips - 2008
Reggie Smith - 2008
All of them having success in the NFL.

Josh Barrett was an athlete too...
Moore has better ball and coverage skills.
