They should have looked around and taken it slower. They have time.
They should have moved to Hybrids instead of pure EV. There are so many advantages to having a hybrid. If charging stations are available fine if not pull up to the pump.
Or if you are going on a long trip (or with trucks, pulling trailer) you have the gas backup.
What happens when there is another Katrina. People always wait till the last minute, hoping it will turn and not hit them. Then there are major traffic jams. Wasnt the trip from New Orleans to Houston something like 12 hours? Fine your EV and make that mileage but not if it is sitting in traffic for hours. An EV still uses power just sitting there and there will be a bunch of dead cars on the interstate making the traffic even worse.
With a hybrid you have the best of both worlds.

A hybrid can deliver between 25 and 50 miles and something like 60% of American driving per day is for trips under 25 miles. Yeah, hybrids make sense and many of them do not require plug-in charging.

While true, you've also got the worst of both as well. I hear this all the time, yet people seem to completely overlook that you now have an engine, transmission, and battery to think about. I think it makes a lot of sense for trucks. For commuter vehicles, if you've got a two-or-more-car household, there's no reason not to have one full EV in the lineup.
