Has anyone considered yet that Aldi has never operated pharmacies in any of their stores and even if they wanted to, which they don't, they don't have the permits?
I'm heartbroken. A lot of the Winn Dixie pharmacists will lose their jobs in this acquisition.

They could sell off their pharmacy business to Walgreens or CVS and still operate some of their in store pharmacies.
Brookshires/Super1 just did this with Walgreens. Target did this several years ago with CVS.
Those PBMs must be putting the screws on the pharmacy business. Especially with newer drugs costing over a thousand, and collecting a 30 dollar copay, and 25-50% from the PBM or insurance companies, the business model doesn’t work anymore unless you are a large conglomerate and negotiate steep discounts from the manufacturer.
That is one area where Rouses stayed away. They had some pharmacies when they first opened some of their larger store formats in Houma and Thibodaux, but they sold off or transferred the prescription business to the Walgreens when they built stores near them.
Pharmacy has been one area where Rouses does not mimic a Publix, the other is with Lottery Tickets. From what I can tell, only two stores sell lottery tickets, and it is two stores that were purchased that sold lottery tickets before they were purchased by Rouses.
On the other hand, nearly every Florida Powerball Millionaire bought their ticket at a Publix.
