So what irons do you have? I mean if they’re 10 year old players type irons, and the people you’re playing with have newer game improvement stuff, they could just have stronger lofted clubs and really only be a club ahead of you.

I’ve played all over as a single this summer, and got paired with 15-20 different guys. I’m alright, 85-90 on a decent day, 95 on a bad. I struggle putting. So, I’m not very good, but I get around without getting behind or embarrassing myself. I hit it (spray it) 265. 285 if I’m hitting it really well and the course is firm, which isn’t bombing it, but I’m good with it as an out of shape 36 yr old.

There were a couple in the 35-50 year old range that were longer than me, but the guys that could just beat everybody’s arse were the 225-240 hitters that are just slow, steady, and straight. Hit fairways, hit greens, make putts. No implosions, very few 3 putts. Played with this one Asian doctor in Birmingham the other day. I played awesome, sweated my fat arse off in a cart, and shot 86. This dude was mid 40’s and about 165; he strolled up in mid July with a push cart, entire bag was TaylorMade Sim2 from driver to PW, and I was like oh shite, how’s this going to work. He walked 18, never broke a sweat. Hit it 225 tops, and shot 78. Just never faltered.

Focus on your short game, and you’ll be fine.
