Diabetes insipidus can cause electrolyte imbalances because the brain and kidneys are miscommunicating.

If she was severely dehydrated and hyponatremic overcorrecting too fast causes the brain cells to swell due to crazy transmembrane shifts of fluids based on electrolytes and biochemical electrical impulses. In the end, we are all electrical creatures.
