quote: His progress is he is working the ground game and building bridges in the early states, especially Iowa. People forget that Trump was up by 11 points in the last Iowa poll prior to getting crushed by Cruz and DeSantis has a much more organized and better funded organization than Cruz. It's a Caucus state. DeSantis understands that if he wins Iowa everything changes. Trump isn't inevitable and he has to fight against a guy that has far more money and far better organization than he does. He can't just rely on inevitability. Trump may still win for sure but it's going to be a dogfight. The "others" will also be pressured to drop out pretty quickly and they won't have any money except Vivek who is just a Trump surrogate. Of course on the flip side if Ron loses Iowa bigly he's done. These national polls are great for banter but they have little to do with the bigger picture outside of how they might impact the folks in Iowa and NH. This race is Obama vs Hillary in terms of how it sets up and DeSantis is literally following Obama's plan and Trump looks eerily similar to Hillary in '07/8. Obama was down 30 into December, then he surprised in Iowa and suddenly it was a race. Of course there are things about this race that are different than that one as well but it is definitely the most similar from a political science perspective. I understand you have to have hope, but you're making yourself feel better at the moment. They just cut 33% of their staff because they overspent. RDS campaign firings quote: The expanded cuts are the latest sign that the Florida governor’s team is pivoting to a slim-down operation amid concerns over their finances. The campaign announced it had raised $20 million during the second quarter of this year. But it had spent a good chunk of that money. Much of the sum it raised, moreover, came from donors who had given the maximum amount and could not give again. Which leads me to my next point...Trump gets 82% of donations from small donors - IE he's a populist that has vast support from small donors. You may not think this is a good thing, but in fact it is. It means his support is broad and will LAST throughout the primary and GE because the max donation limit will not be reach by 82% of his support for quite a while. Meanwhile, Ron has less small donor support than Nikki Haley, Mike Pence, and even Will Hurd??? who? MOST of Ron's donors have MAXXED out their support, and cannot re-up. It also shows he's the establishment's candidate..which is hurting his populism as well. The bottom line is, while he's an impressive governer, governor popularity in their own state doesn't translate to popularity in a GE historically. It's a toss up, and in this case..people just don't like the guy.

Lol.

If you have followed campaigns like this for any time you would know this is normal. Trump went through 5 campaign managers in '16. DeSantis has done shakeups multiple times in every campaign. They are constantly re-assessing and shifting strategy.

All that graph shows is Trump isn't getting the big money donors he got in '16 and '20. It's not that he doesn't want them he just can't get them as they have left him. DeSantis also has 6000 more unique donors than Trump and has both large and small. Obviously one large donor makes up for many small ones. This is not a positive for Trump, it just means he is short on money.

So short on money he absolutely destroyed DeSantis in Iowa.
