Chicago Cubs organist takes on role for 2023 Men's College World Series
John Benedeck is usually playing the organ for Cubs fans at Wrigley Field.
"I live in Chicago, but I'll be here for the whole two weeks. The trek, the double headers for a whole week. So this will be fun," Benedeck said.
A lifelong baseball fan, he's ready for first pitch.
"I just want games, man. Let's get the games going," he said.
Benedeck says you can expect musical style with personality.
"I try to be as kind and sarcastic at the same time if that's possible," he said.
He's already impressed by the home of the CWS.
This is the mecca," he said.
And understanding the job of an organist may be a little inside baseball.
"It's not a timed game, it's not this constant action. It's hurry up and wait. So I'll play a little something, and then I've got time to watch the game a little bit and contribute to the fandom of it cause I love baseball on top of the organ," he said.
Benedeck says he already wouldn't mind another trip to Omaha next year.
