If they had expected you to pay that much, they would have made you pay it in advance. Just call them and explain your situation.
I was having some heart problems and my cardiologist asked me to wear a halter monitor that monitored my heart 24/7 for 21 days. When over they sent me a bill for basically $10,000! When I called them and told them my insurance wouldn’t cover that the lady said without hesitation, “just pay $129.50 and we’ll call it square”.
This was a very reputable cardiologist and hospital and they were purely trying to get money from my insurance company.
