Colonialism worked in the Americas and Australia and New Zealand because the native population relative to the land mass was small. It did not take long for European populations to become the largest group. In Africa and Asia the European population was never going to become the dominant group. Rhodesia and South Africa were minority white. The US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand became majority white via natural growth. That was never going to happen in Africa.
