Like I said before I had a few outdoor power and a fleet gas & diesel shop a few years ago.

We did engine replacement for fleet vehicles and it hit or miss. I cringed as it tied up too many labor hours and if things go wrong I lose money. Transmission swap is pretty quick and painless. You can replace reman or new engine where still have other hidden issues. Back then the cost use to be around the same price as an engine. On avg $10k to $12k.

It depends on the condition of the truck if you want to do it.

My nephew needed a truck.
Got 3 yr old Chevy with blown 5.3 dirt cheap.
He had the seats redone.
Sent rear end out to be rebuilt as that really didn’t cost much.
GM crate tranny, and GM crate engine.
Truck works fine and after this repair he has 157,000 on the truck.

It the luck of rolling the dice.
