His name *was* Hans Gudegast.. He played a German Captain in the WWII TV series Rat Patrol. He changed his name I guess when he came to U.S. and started in soaps..

I remember watching Eric Braeden in that TV show and before he got into telenovelas, he did a great American sci-fi movie called The Forbin Project.
