We lived next to the weatherman for the top station in a large midwestern city. He didn't have all that high an income, based on the neighborhood. And he was doing a local TV game show on the side to manage that. It stopped being weird pretty quickly. Great guy and family.
Also have to say that we lived a few houses down from Myron Cope who was the sportscaster in Pittsburgh that was the creator of the Terrible Towel and who called Steelers games. He was doing decently, again by the neighborhood. And he was a saint in his family life, which was an incredible challenge. It's on the internet so - his wife died while giving birth to a severely autistic son. We didn't see him a lot because he spent a lot of time taking care of his son. Heh - I just saw that Myron Cope was the first broadcaster elected to the NFL hall of fame. Well deserved.
