As a kid on Christmas Eve we would go to my grandmothers for dinner and open gifts with all the family. It was usually about 30 people at her old house. The children would get a couple gifts and the adults would exchange names to buy each other gifts. The gifts for the adults were usually jokes.
I didn’t really understand this until I was in my teenage years. After that night we would rush back home and my parents would tell me and my siblings we had to quickly fall asleep as Santa was on his way. Usually my mother would stay up late to put out the gifts from Santa.
Now as an adult with two kids of my own I really appreciate the time and effort my family put in to make it special.
Family isn’t big like it was as a child. Sadly, as people age they pass away, but the memories of that old home filled with laughter will never go away.
Merry Christmas everyone.
