quote:

Hard to say what he would have done.

On one hand, he was a very conservative Jew (see money changers in the Temple). On the other hand, he did reach out to people on the fringes of society (see the lepers).
Reasonable point but misleading.

Jesus took flack for who he reached out to and who he let approach him, even touch him physically. As you note, lepers, tax collectors, prostitutes, adulterers, sinners in general. The sick need a physician, not the whole and healthy, didn’t Jesus say?

There’s no specific record of an interaction with a homosexual. Replace the “woman caught in adultery” with “the man caught laying with another man” and I believe you can adduce Jesus’s response. “You without sin cast the first stone.” And to the sinner, “Neither do I condemn thee. Go and sin no more.”

quote:

Because we have so little reliable historical info about him people tend to cherry-pick verses that support their own views and project their own ideals upon him.

Cherry picking verses is and will always be a pesky issue as long as we’re hindered by our sinful nature, our flesh as KJV puts it. But that’s more or less irrelevant to the question.

The observation of having “so little reliable historical info about him” is inaccurate. There’s more than enough evidence to have a reasonable Christian faith in the New Testament alone.
