As an old-timer, I would pick the new group. But it’s closer than those who never saw the first group play think it is. Especially if you’re talking college career as opposed to NFL career.
Eric Martin, a converted running back, broke the SEC career receiving yards record in the early eighties.
Wendell Davis broke Martin’s SEC career receiving yards record and was a two-time All American and the SEC player of the year in 1987.
Josh Reed, another converted running back, again broke the SEC career receiving yards record, was a consensus All American, and was awarded the Belitnikof award as the best receiver in the nation.
Michael Clayton was also a fine receiver and all around football player.
