I fly fairly regularly, but I hate every second of it. It absolutely terrifies me and I never feel like I'm not going to die. Even with booze, xanax, booze + xanax, I am still always nervous.
Have you ever thought about going up for a lesson or two at a local flight school? I’ve found that the more people understand about what’s happening (and how), the less they fear. That would absolutely be worth the cost if it calms those fears and makes flying more enjoyable for you.
Truly, we’ve got the best office in the world up there.

The thought of doing that makes my stomach turn. But you're probably right that if I faced my fears it would help. I flew with my grandfather in smaller planes when I was a kid and I was fine, but I didn't have the anxieties then that I do as an adult.
When I am flying, I hold it together externally. Internally, I'm Britney Spears when she shaved her head and attacked the paparazzi with an umbrella.

Kind of off topic but with pilots in this thread I thought I would ask. I've heard the FAA is looking at changing/loosening the weight requirements for GA that would make your typical cessna 152/172 considered light sport aircraft. I've always wanted to fly recreational but can't because I can't get a class 3 medical certificate for a PPL and there are zero flight schools around here (Baton Rouge) that have a light sport aircraft to train in or rent if I were to get my sports pilots license. If they made a 152/172 a LSA that would obviously change things for me and others who can't get a class 3 medical.
Have any of ya'll heard anything about the FAA going this route?
