I recommend that you buy either a Ruger or S&W chambered for .357 magnum.

The .357 is a very powerful round and its cylinder will allow you to also shoot the less powerful .38 special. This is beneficial at the range or whenever you want a lighter cartridge (less recoil upon firing).

I would look for something with at least a 4" barrel. If concealment is a concern a snub nose will work.

I personally prefer the extra rifling and additional powder burn that a longer barrel provides.
