Separate for everything.

We just kind of roughly split major expenses. I pay the mortgage and various insurance policies and she pays for school and child care. Groceries and trips and household goods are just bought by whomever along the way.

It works well for us. If I come out behind every year (which I probably do) I don’t care. Either we stay together and it’s all joint assets in the end or we get divorced and eating canned beans from aldi and sadly jerking off to the sears catalogue.

Admittedly this works for us because we both work, hate shopping and hoard our sheckles. Investments are jointly discussed although typically separately funded.
