Always refer to the company policy manual. I made the mistake years ago by passing on shortcuts to a new hire that were not in the manual.

At a staff meeting several weeks later a question arose regarding a "how to handle" a difficult situation. The new hire pointed at me and said, "I know, I know because he told me what to do and how to do it"

From then on I would quote corporate policy when asked a question from
new hires.
