Jacob Cutrera and Danny McCray

Watching the second half of the SC game I think that for the first time ever I was quite impressed with how Cutrera played. I am wondering if I will ever feel this way with McCray. I realize he is a young kid, trying his best, but it is no suprise to me that the defense all of a sudden looked a hell of a lot better when he was taken out of the game in the second half. The coaches were asking him to do things (like cover P. Harvin) that he was just not capable of. Maybe not his fault, but I am willing to bet that for the last two years, on third down passing situations, the opposing quaterbacks first reads are at Danny McCray. I liked seeing Peterson in the slot and feel he will just get better. Comments?

Of course I won't, but its nice to see improvement. I have been killing him since he gave up three long touchdowns against Ar-Kansas last year and thought it was nice to see him play well.

Bingo. If that's what McCray's role is on this team, then the offseason conditioning program at LSU is absolutely terrible, because McCray is way too big for that kind of stuff.

Oh i agree. He is young and will improve throughout his tenure at lsu. I do bash him quite a bit but would love to have to eat my words of what i have said about him

The co-dc finally took the chains off of our d.

Makes no sense that you would play a safety/linebacker hybrid type player as your nickle back covering the slot, who is typically the quickest guy on the other team. i don't like C. Jones in that spot either. He may be fast enough straight line, but is to big to turn his hips fast enough to cover a 5 yard in/out route close enought to prevent an easy cmp and first down.

If the d-line got the same amount of pressure in the previous 3 games as they did in the 2nd half the other night, McCray wouldn't have looked so bad.
Saturday night had very little to do with McCray not being out there and a lot to do with the aggressive play calls that haven't been there all year.

Cutrera looked very good.

I have really been impressed with Cutrera this year. And McCray had a solid game.

I think it'll be interesting next year to see if McCray will finally get to be a safety full time or if Jones or Hatcher beat him out for the starting FS spot.

Don't you love it when RANTards pretend to know what they are talking about! They make our coaching staff look bad in comparison.

If by "pretend" to know what I am talking about implies making a solid observation that almost everyone would agree with than you are correct i am pretending. If you didn't notice D. MCcray three steps behind his guy on serveral occasions in the first half and throughout his career than a) I suggest you drink more b/c it works for me or b) I suggest you get glasses

You can't get a job coaching, so posing is the best you can do.

Of course it's easy to take the chains off and let them pin there ears back and rush the passer when there is no running back threat. Don't get me wrong, I was glad to see some intensity, but it is much more difficult to do when there is a great running back in the backfield. If we blitz too hard we could get caught in a Knowshon draw play that could be dangerous. If we can get pressure with our front four, I think our linebackers can handle the draw. We shall see my friend.
