I wouldn't say that that's the ONLY way to energy independence, but it could. There's nothing morally wrong with zero fossil fuel use, it's just a matter of practicality. I would say that minimizing dependence on fossil fuels would lead to greater energy independence.

Energy has to come from somewhere. There will likely always need to be some resource extracted to generate and/or store energy. Uranium for nuclear, lithium/cobalt/nickel for lithium ion batteries, etc. We have a ton of fossil fuel production domestically, while the opposite holds true for the aforementioned (which are frankly more concentrated in bad countries) so I’m not really sure your statement makes sense other than in a dream world.

On September 27, 1905, during his “miracle year,” Albert Einstein published a paper titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy-Content? In the paper, Einstein described the interchangeable nature of mass and energy, or what came to be known as E=mc^2. This formula led to the development of energy through nuclear fission.

When Spindle Top came in in 1902, what do you think people would've said if you had theorized on one day getting energy from splitting atoms instead of burning oil?

They would've said you were living in a dream world.

That's the thing about technological advancement, it happens in spite of the haters.

But a funny thing about, "energy has to come from somewhere" is that fact that energy is constantly all around us. It may be merely a matter of more efficient harvesting - or not. We just don't know yet.
