Because you have such a roster deficiency that you need veterans that can play now.
I think you are going to see larger schools take less high school athletes and more transfers. The top guys will still go to the big schools but the next tier guys will go to smaller schools then the power 5 will cherry pick the freshmen/sophomores that did well at that level.
People are worried about college football being a minor league for the NFL but if this trend continues the group of 5 and lower will literally become the farm system for the power 5.

Maybe. Maybe not.
I don't see Ohio St., Alabama, Georgia, Michigan... taking a whole bunch of transfers. They mostly take highly rated transfers and top HS recruits. I understand different situation than us.
This year I can see us taking a whole lot of transfers for some reasons you all have mentioned and it makes sense.
But going forward do we have the same approach? Or go after HS recruits like usual?
