you will be outbid every time until you pass some other person's max bid. Theoretically, if you knew what that person's max bid was, lets say it was 200$, and the price is currently at 100$, you could bid 199 and make him pay at least that amount if he wins

If you have the time... its always best to put in your highest bid in the final seconds of the auction. I never bid early because all that does is have your own bid drive up the price... if its something expensive, or that I really want, I will wait until there is about 10 seconds left, then put in my highest bid... that way, I will likely get the very last bid in and I will also avoid driving up the price in the early hours of the auction...

Hope this helps.

in Ebay, there is a Maximum bid you can enter that does not get updated until it is needed, but it is updated automatically if needed.
i.e
A bid can be at $ .50
i ENTER $ 1.00
if THE OTHER PERSON HAS A
a max bid of $10,the bid will
immediately jump by the min necessary,
i.e. to $ 1.50 AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO NTIL THE $10 mAX LIMIT OF THE OTHER PERSON HAS BEEN REACHED
