From around age 10-14 my pa would wait until it was 95+ degrees and humid out, then drive us out to the local harescramble course, 5 miles long, to go jogging through peat dirt, horseweeds, bogs, woods. He'd give me a 1 min. Head start and if he caught me before we got back to the truck he would tackle me and rub me into the dirt. No Ac in the truck but we did stop to jump in the river on the way home.

One night he came into my bedroom around 11pm dressed in total bdu getup. He was holding my brand new pair of converse shoes that he had spray painted black. painted my face, handed me a straw. And we crawled out through my bedroom window. It was pouring down rain all night. We snuck through the neighborhood, through the woods, to the pond down the road and he made me breath under water through the straw. Good times.
