A&M officials say the LED video display will be 47 feet high and 163 feet wide, and be the first one in college athletics to have 1080 resolution.

If you want HD, stay home.

why do you need HD when it is freaking ads across the whole thing? Everybody knows what the coke and mcdonald's and cox logos look like.

Who wouldn't want ads in 1080? I'm paying 400 bucks per game to stay in the club and pay for the damn screens.

How will I ever be able to enjoy a football game in Tiger Stadium without HD video boards?!?!?!?

ESPN broadcasts in 720p so if you're watching a game on their network you aren't getting a true 1080 anyway.
Now CBS is 1080.
Now CBS is 1080.

If you're putting something brand new in, why not make it top of the line now, so it is not instantly outdated the moment you put it in.
So what if ESPN broadcasts in 720 right now, they could switch to 1080 at any given point.
Might as well spend the money now and not have to upgrade later.

This nonsense reminds me of the bit Louis CK does about parents video taping their kids recitals, plays, sporting events, etc. with their smartphones and not even paying attention to the actual thing that's going on in front of them.
“The resolution on the kid is unbelievable if you just look. It’s totally HD.”

Why stop there? I want some 4K resolution screens.

I think it is a fairly safe to say you won't be able to tell the difference unless there is a 1080p screen next to it.
