First off, let me start off by saying that I think PLENTY of folks are going to look back on all this in a few years and wish it never happened. But it seems like a foregone conclusion that Super Conferences will be formed.

That being said, does anyone else see CBS Sports as being a behind the scenes power broker right now? The saying goes "Follow the Money" and despite some ridiculous comments from some about this is being done for academics and Olympic Sports, this is all about college football and money. And that means TV executives are behind the scenes being consulted.

ESPN/ABC is in a strange position because, quite honestly, they have multiple assets here with various canference and school television contracts. They are almost bidding against themselves at this point. It must be nuts over there in their legal and tv divisions.

NBC can't do anything because they are a one trick pony with ND. They can only hope the Big East stays together so ND doesn't have to move to a conference with football to help their other sports.

But CBS seems like they could step to the table and up the ante for the SEC to get a better team or teams. When marquee games are out there, CBS' double header with a prime time game has been a hit I would assume. And you add VA Tech, FSU, OU or Texas in some fashion and you would have some incredible games week-in, week-out to televise and charge sponsors.

Played today (or almost any week, any year), more eyes would watch FSU-Bama/Auburn/UGA/LSU than FSU-Pittsburgh. Same thing with OU-SEC versus OU-PAC 12. The only exception would be OU-USC.

I wonder if CBS, along with the SEC, are so quiet right now because they are working behind the scenes. I can't imagine the SEC will stand pat at 13. I also don't think they thought this conference implosion would happen in a matter of weeks. I think we should pay attention to where there is the least amount of noise (look what the ACC did). And it is QUIET from the SEC and CBS right now.

I hope the SEC adds one more quality team and preserve some of the rivalries and traditions. I just don't see how you can do that with 16. Either way, the landscape has changed...I think ultimately for the worst overall. I love the A&M addition. But if I knew it would lead to OU-Washington State or FSU-Syracuse conference matchups to choose to watch as a fan, I think I may have reconsidered.

That may have a "Signing Day Surprise" quality to it (which I hate). But I just have to think CBS and the SEC are doing something.

Doubt the SEC has even consulted CBS. Don't think they have the resources or brain power to compete wit Disney /ABC/ESPN. While they have made some nice hires recently, I'm afraid they fall in the file labeled "To little -To late ".

ESPN agenda is to control the top 64 (at a minimum). With that long term goal, the first step was/is realignment & 4 super conferences. They pushed the first domino with the LHN. Baylor turned out to be the pawn with their threats of litigation.

As contracts expire, ESPN will not be outbid. Once they have the Super 4, push for withdrawal from the NCAA for football & launch a true playoff for the NC. THAT will be their big payoff!

In this scenario I should have included :
LHN implodes the Big 12(10-1).

ACC TV deal is with ESPN. Push them to expand raiding the Big E. Big E implodes.

Bang! 4 super conferences.

Let the dust settle & look for a play-off in 2015.

Hope I'm still around to see it! Gonna be close.

I think CBS' future is brighter than that. Have you read any of Clay Travis' articles on this subject? Pretty interesting. What made the SEC is the quality and depth of teams. It's unmatched and that's what viewers want. The SEC and CBS wil be fine. It's the best product out there.

Another senile moment - BCS contract expires at the end of 2014 season.
SEC is strong - weak link is CBS. When it's time to ante up, CBS will not be able to compete with the worldwide leader conglomerate.
