Off of CFB?

TV deals? If so, how do these work?

Do the schools get paid based on ratings?

Yes TV deals, team appearal, ticket sales, bowl game payouts, etc.
A TV deal is made with the conference, not an individual school, so the money is spread out equally amoung the 12 schools. ESPN signed a 15 year deal worth over 2 Billion that will be destributed to all the SEC schools equally

Ratings come in to play when you renegotiate. Market share = add revenue = bigger payout

So...you want to expand the conference (preferably into new markets) so that more folks watch the games on TV so that CBS or ESPN will pay you (I.e. The university) more to broadcast your game???

You got it. This is why the Big Ten (11) has been holding out for Notre Dame for 20 years. TV clout. Further evidence: the creation of the Big Ten Network two years ago.

right on brotha. and youre way ahead of the curb because 90% of the people on here dont understand that. Its about conference prestige and tv contracts. Thats why its pointless to get a GT or clemson when you could get a VT or pointless to get a FSU or Miami when you could get an OU. Brand new markets are what everyone is looking for and Texas is the holy grail
