UT - Has no desire to remake the Big 12...in there minds the only other team who brought bargaining power to the Contracts left(leaving)... Nebraska. As regards with the SEC...who really knows...but all random guesses point to UT trying to throw the weight and not join the SEC...bluff gets called and A&M and OU hop to the SEC...who knows.

A&M - per Texags.com three reagents are apparently all about the SEC and several other have stated the best interest for A&M is not the Pac 10. Apparently the athletic director is the closest thing you can find to a Pac 10 homer in Texas but ultimately won't make the last decision.

you would know more about baylor than i, but don't they hold a lot of power too? couldn't they be the ones who blow up plans or is it basically whatever UT and tamu want to do?

Imagine had Greg Byrne stayed the AD at MSU, we would have had a father (Bill Byrne)/son (Greg) ADs at member schools. And, they both wear maroon (assuming Texas A&M does eventually become a member of the SEC)

Word on the street is, and this is VERY unofficial, that politicians are backing out...

Rick Perry said he is standing aside...no Ann Richards to the rescue this time... ratings and contract negotiation power is what's going to determine our fate...

I would be delusional if I really thought A&M or UT would stand up for there red headed step child...but it helps me sleep at night.

Baylor holds no power. When the BIG 12 was formed, Baylor has power in that Ann Richards (Baylor Alumn) was Governor. Current Gov A&M Alumn but he is said to be staying out of this for now.

Edit - we must have been thinking the same thing...

IMO, the only way Baylor gets "lucky" is if A&M goes SEC and Baylor falls-in to A&M's PAC-10 spot. Texas legislators want all schools to receive maximum revenue opportunity and this option makes it possible. I would expect Texas to actually "encourage" (maybe not demand) Baylor be included in the PAC-10 if A&M goes SEC.

A&M's AD doesn't want the Pac-10 either. He had been an AD in the Pac-10 before and apparently didn't like it.

I agree, this is our best "realistic chance" but apparently "CAL" is putting there foot down about religious schools...

I think "falling" into something is our best bet...but I don't think any one is going to pick up our banner and march around with it...

WAC going to a 16 team conference trying to fill the big 12 shoes is I think something I would not feel to bad about.

Word is that Mack Brown is the only one showing any real resistance in Austin to leaving the Big 12.

There is a REASON why NO EXPERTS* are talking about reforming the Big 12...

I suppose this could be where we'd find out just how powerful the University of Texas actually is.

Good luck, brother.

I got some detailed information on this that is pretty sensitive. I sent it to a couple people on here through Scout.com. I do know that to be false. Also, I can say that UT right now has zero interest in joining the SEC and wants nothing to do with the Birmingham offices. OU is the key to any SEC expansion, because TAMU needs to find at least one Western partner. The SEC has a backup plan though if they decide they want TAMU anyway without UT or OU, as they will go after two eastern teams and Mizzou.

No way A&M comes without UT. That was blocked by the Texas legislature before and it will be blocked again.

Baylor will be fine. Texas or A&M will take them with as a package deal. Baylor has too much power in the state to be left out, just like last time.
