Jackie Sherrill predicted this in 1991

I attended a BAMA Quarterback Club meeting in 1991 when Jackie Sherrill was the guest speaker - he predicted the emergence of four to six "super conferences". He outlined the teams he thought would be in the various conferences - he predicted the expansion of the ACC, had Texas and aTm into the SEC; Missouri in the BigX; Colorado in the PAC10. He wasn't right on the money, but overall made some interesting predictions.
