AGAIN!!!! They are a sleeping giant!!
SEC will help them fix the Athletic Revenue problem.
They don't need help on the Academic side at all.
Here is where A&M would be big provider to the SEC in academics and money.
For the sake of clarity, let’s look at the 2009 endowment rankings of the schools that play D1 football.
These rankings are system wide, so A&M’s Vet school is included with A&M – Texas’ Med school with Texas and so on.
There are 25 schools playing D1 football that have endowments exceeding $1 billion. They are, in order (all amounts are billions)
1. Stanford University $ 12.619
2. University of Texas System $ 12.163
3. University of Michigan $ 6.001
4. Northwestern University $ 5.445
5. Texas A&M University System $ 5.084
6. University of California $ 4.937
7. University of Notre Dame $ 4.795
8. Duke University $ 4.441
9. Rice University $ 3.613
10. Vanderbilt University $ 2.834
11. University of Southern California $ 2.671
12. University of Virginia $ 2.557
13. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill $ 1.905
14. University of Pittsburgh $ 1.837
15. Ohio State University $ 1.652
16. University of Washington $ 1.649
17. Purdue University $ 1.458
18. University of Wisconsin $ 1.373
19. Boston College $ 1.341
20. Indiana University $ 1.227
21. Pennsylvania State University $ 1.226
22. University of Minnesota $ 1.077
23. Michigan State University $ 1.047
24. Southern Methodist University $ 1.035
25. University of Florida $ 1.011

We are currently ranked 18th by forbes list in terms of most valuable football programs, right behind arkansas. once we join the SEC, we would bump that number by 15 mil or so right away with the TV money.
Add that to the fact that fan support and donations would be at a 15 year high, games would be selling out the next day, and we are easily jumping up into the top 10. I did some of the math, and we would have a team value of 73 mil with the added TV revenue alone. which puts us within 5 mill or so of every team in the SEC but Fla. LSU. and Bama.
ALl just by JOINING the conference. when we finally adjust to the SEC style of play and field some good teams, that number will certianly increase.

A&M ATHLETICS DOES NOT RECEIVE A PENNY OF ENDOWMENT MONEY
Jesus Christ
p.s........Texas A&M is one of several schools that share that endowment. That's why it's called 'system'.
Take the endowment talk to the academics board.

That quick math study would sell me for sure if I was a decision maker for A&M. Come on over to the SEC where we build wealth without destroying the whole product.

If all this is true, why did A&M's athletic dept have to borrow $16M from the school's general fund to pay it's bills? Something doesn't add up.....

Worried? We've been kicking their arse since 1903.
My question is:
What in the frick does an endowment have to do with A&M athletics? Why even list it? Why don't you list out how many KFC's they have in College Station? There is no correlation and it has absolutely nothing to do with the SEC or A&M athletics.

This "debt" was blown out of proportion to a degree. Most of that has already been eaten up by private donations.
A large portion of that debt was also due to us taking on too many projects at 1 specific time.....25 million dollar basketball practice facility, renovations, 10 million dollar football practice facility, 10 indoor track facility etc etc.
There are a few other factors and I will post them later on this weekend. I dont think anyone should get the impression that A&M constantly runs in the red and has some major financial problems because it really just isnt the case.

When you buy a house, you usually dont have the full 200,000 K it takes to buy it right away. you take out a loan.
SO if someone gave you a $100,000 loan at 0%, with NO TIMETABLE to pay it back, you wouldnt take it?
we could have fit the bill all ourselves, but why? it was as close to free money as you can get. But Murano took one last shot at the BOR on her way it, thus giving our AD a black eye.

I'm still waiting to hear why the endowment keeps being brought up on sports boards?
The Walton's (Wal-Mart) run our business school, along with 3 of the 7 wealthiest American's (Walton's) living in the Fayetteville area. How does that correlate to our athletic dept? It doesn't. Why bring it up?

That makes sense; not enough cash flow to service the debt.

I guess it keeps being brought up to show how inferior arky is to A&M.

Oh, and you have a lopsided, losing record to us in Basketball and Baseball as well.
T&F? Count the National Championships and get back to me.
You're superior in gay storm trooper outfits. That's it.

It's on the list of UT's reason of why they want to go to the Pac-10.
It's just another part of the whole thing.
T-sips try to say or USE AN EXCUSE of why they don't want the SEC
It's easier guidelines for football players to get in the SEC.--T-sip
F him.

You better check your math....

No possible way does A&M have a $15M incremental increase in TV money or go from $52M to $73M by joining the SEC.

the record would be much closer in football if you would have stuck around for a few more arse whoopins in the early 90's.
congrats on beating up a bunch of true freshmen last year in Dallas. this years game will be far more entertaining.
Basketball is gay.
Baseball doesnt matter as much, but okay sure, congrats.
Pat Henry coaches our Track team, so right now you may have history, but we have scoreboard, 2009 mens and womens National Champions, and pretty decent chance at improving on history as well.
and to be honest, I dont care anyway.
and our school is better, our state is better, our fans are better.
Did i mention our state is better?

and your right, I was doing the math at 20, not 15, and typed the wrong thing. Self inflicted Aggie joke, gotta hate those.
the pay out was 17 mill a year last year right? so if A&M and another school is added, the SEC can renegotiate the deal for more money so I just assumed we would pull in around 20 mill when the contracts are all said and done.
Correct me if im wrong, thats just the understanding I have from reading around a bit, but I am sure ya'll know better

It seemed as though it was really an intra-department loan anyway.
Like borrowing money from your mom or dad.

At Texas A&M, political football has supplanted the gridiron variety. After only 18 months on the job, Aggie president Elsa Murano resigned under pressure on Sunday. Her recent revelations about athletic debt may eventually cost head football coach Mike Sherman his job.
In his defense, Sherman had no connection to the $16 million loaned from the University’s general fund to the athletic department in 2005. The responsibility for the arrangement falls on the shoulders of former president Robert Gates, currently the nation’s Secretary of Defense, and athletic director Bill Byrne.
with a defense of her first year in office and mentioned the athletic department must follow a strict business plan to repay the $16 million debt. The large intra-departmental loan had drawn no previous mention in the media until Murano brought it to light.
