The last two books I have listened to were long (over 50 hours) and by the end, the readers' voices became annoying to distraction.

- Freedom by Jonathon Franzen. Reader using different voices and accents- very poorly. For example a deep voiced white male trying to speak like a Brazillian woman.

-American Pastoral by Phillip Roth. Reader had a New Jersey/New York accent that was really thick. Certainly appropriate for the selection, but by the end, I felt like I was being lectured by a New Yorker.

- Shogun. Just started it this weekend. So far, so good. Reader has a British accent and has done a decent job thus far with the Dutch and Japanese accents. It's a long book though....

Just listened to the whole thing

Two objections:
Blackthorne sounds angry like he’s talking through clenched teeth no matter the situation

All the Dutch sound whiney and stupid.

I have listened to a few more chapters since posting. I have to agree with your assessment.

“So sorry” Still one of the best books I’ve “read”. And overall I thought the narrator did a good job.

“So sorry”.

Haha!
