Possible Spoilers for those who haven't read.
Read the first book, Prince of Thorns, after seeing it recommended in a few other threads.
Thought it was ok but not great. Prince Jorg is such an unlikable a-hole. In fact there are only 2 remotely likable characters and one is dead by the end of the book.
Am debating weather to read the next 2 books. I am really liked the fact that this takes place on earth 1100 or so years in the future after an apocalyptic event and all modern knowledge being lost.
The only reason I may keep reading is to find out more about the day if a thousand suns, the builders and weather the magicians are really magical or not.
For those who've read it, do those questions get answered or should I just quit reading now?

I thought each book was incrementally better. You'll see different sides of Jorg over the next 2 books as he rules, weds, fight wars, has a kid, etc... And the development of the world and the builders was the best part.
Jorg was an insufferable prick through most of the 1st book.

Jorg gets much better in books 2 and 3, though he's still more of an amoral antihero even then. Each book is slightly better than the one before in that series for me.
If you like the setting but want a more likeable protagonist you could try his other trilogy set during the same time frame in a separate setting, the Red Queen's War. It might be right up your alley, as the main character there is flawed but much more likeable than Jorg.

Thanks to both of you for replying.
Sounds like things get better and will give book 2 a shot after I finish what I'm currently reading.
I don't mind the anti-hero aspect at all. Like it better than the boring physically and morally pure ones. But damn in book 1 I just wanted someone to kill Jorg and get the whole thing over with.
