Clemson has officially named senior quarterback Christopher Vizzina its starter for Saturday night's season opener against LSU in Tiger Stadium.

Vizzina beat out true freshman Tait Reynolds for the job after spending the previous three seasons behind Cade Klubnik. He has appeared in 14 career games but has made just one start.

That start came against SMU last season, when Vizzina completed 29-of-42 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

His first road start will now come in one of college football's toughest environments against LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

Baker's defense finished third in the SEC in pass-efficiency defense last season and recorded 17 interceptions while allowing just 14 touchdown passes.

Vizzina and Clemson will face LSU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT in Tiger Stadium.
