Sources tell Channel 2 Action News that defensive end Trent Thompson was released Thursday morning to his mother.

Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes talked with Thompson’s brother Thursday afternoon. He told her, “(Trenton’s) going to be OK.”

There are conflicting reports as to the cause of the medical issues, but it is not believed to be football-related.
Thompson, a former five-star recruit for the class of 2015, broke out toward the end of 2016 as one of the SEC's best defensive linemen. He took home the MVP in the Bulldogs' Liberty Bowl win over TCU.
