They're thick but amazing reads, the show is a watered down version of the books so if you think the plotlines and twists are crazy in GoT, then you'll really love the amplified version in ASOIAF....

Yeah, but the Lannister army is gassed after the war of the 5 kings, not to mention surrounded as the show discussed. I think the Tarly's help the Lannisters defeat Highgarden then the Greyjoys take out a big chunk of ships while Dany splits her army to take Casterly Rock. Then eventually moves east...
