Some Superbad trivia for its ten year anniversary. I don't assume anyone cares that much but why not:
quote:
Almost all the names in Superbad are people we went to high school with and lots of the stuff in the movie really happened to us.
quote:
The period blood on the leg scene in Superbad actually happened to my friend at a high school dance and we discovered it after the dance.
quote:
Just like in Superbad, Mike Snider actually was the first guy to get a fake ID and it was awesome.
quote:
My good friend @mrDaveKrumholtz came up with the title Superbad while we were smoking weed at the oakwood
quote:
During the MPAA screenings of Superbad they said we were the first movie to say "fingerfrick"
quote:
The end house party in Superbad was filmed about half a block from the OJ murder house.
quote:
My mother came up with the joke that Mclovin gets arrested for statutory rape at the end of Superbad.

That movie just holds up so well. If and when I have kids, I'll point out to them that's what high school was like back in the day before the iPhone. I remember one of my good girlfriends got breast reduction surgery and telling my friends "that's like slapping God in the face", and then they pointed out the back problems and that her body is in better shape than ever. That was the moment in the film that I thought, "yep, this is pretty close".
And then going in with your first fake ID on what could happen, and going to some shady redneck party where you could get your arse kicked at any moment because some shady friend of a friend led you there.
The only unrealistic part of that movie was McLovin with the cops, but even that was hilarious. An all time classic.

Those old style Louisiana licenses were so easy to make fake ids with. We used to tear up Jax Dax, yo.

Still have to watch every time I run across Superbad. The teen sex comedy of my generation was Porky's, the next generation's was American Pie, and the next was Superbad. Still easily in my top 5 comedies of all time.

I think comparing Porky's and American Pie to Superbad are inappropriate. No one had those high school experiences. The sister film to Superbad is Dazed and Confused. Dazed and Confused perfectly encapsulated what it was like to go to high school in the 70s. Sure its exaggerated like Superbad, but kids from the 70s can think of plenty of instances in those movies they identify with, and despite graduating in the 2000s, there's much I identify with that film.
American Pie and Porky's, not really at all. They are cut from a different cloth. They're funny, but you don't feel like you're in high school with these people. At least I didn't. I didn't know any weirdo who would frick a pie as far as I'm aware. I knew plenty of desperate assholes (myself included) who were willing to smuggle beer and booze in laundry detergent if that's what it took.

I was beginning my Junior year of HS when that movie came out, really nailed the time which is weird to think about now because the world has changed so much in the 10 years since.

Said it many times on here but saw it in theaters the summer going into my senior year. It was perfect.

I think a more apt comparison is Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

God fricking dammit. It stings that it came out 10 years ago. fricking college. shite is so fricking good. American Pie 1/2 and Superbad are GOAT teen sex comedies. Not close.
Superbad was the most realistic in its portrayal of how teenage bros talk. To the T. ETA: P in VUH-G

Yes, that's a good comparison as well.

One of my favorite movies of all time.
"Prepared to be fricked by the long dick of the law"
"I assume you all have guns and crack"

Jonah Hill didn't want them to cast Mintz-Plasse as McLovin because he annoyed him IRL.
Apatow offered him the spot right after that.

"You know when you hear girls say 'Ah man, I was so shite-faced last night, I shouldn't have fricked that guy?' we could be that mistake!"
Funniest line in the movie

American Graffiti begat them both.

Same. If there is one movie that absolutely nailed the culture, the time, the conversations, and the thought processes of teenagers in 2007, it's Superbad. Everyone behaves how they should. They talk like actual teenagers. They think like actual teenagers. Everything about that movie is so entirely genuine, and incredibly funny to boot. Seeing that movie with my old man when I was about 15 is an experience I'll never forget.

For some reason, my favorite part is when Jonah Hill's character gets drilled in the back with the bat after him and the other dude ran through the yard with the girls sleeping in the tent. "WHAT THE frick, MAN?!"

There's a little throwaway line from Rogen to Mclovin that gets me every time:
Hader is telling him about meeting his current wife after shooting her in the neck at paintball and Rogen casually says to Mclovin "yeah, you'll meet her".
That and Ghostbusters lunchbox dick treasure chest.
