re: Why won't Monty stagger the guards more? - NOLATX
Throwing my quick two cents into this discussion - I still don't understand why Monty won't even try the Jrue-Tyreke/Gordon-Anderson-AD-Asik lineup out there for spurts. The zone D with that lineup seemed okay in the preseason for periods at a time, and doing so would limit the need for [link=(http:...

re: The Pelicans Most Intriguing Squadron - NOLATX
Agree with that take entirely (and I even think I mentioned somewhere in the column that his height/wingspan gives him the ability to play further off of his man than what would be considered normal for other more typical wing defenders)....

re: The Pelicans Most Intriguing Squadron - NOLATX
The fouling perspective is one I hadn't really considered, mainly because I figured he'd be less likely to pick up fouls on the wings vs. playing defense inside. Fatigue was my bigger concern for him out there....

Thanks for sharing, and I hope y'all enjoy it. Looking forward to hearing people's thoughts about not just the column itself, but the feasibility in general of those five guys playing together....

re: Predict the Pels next big move this offseason - NOLATX
If I'm the Pels, I push for LRMAM as the cap filler w/ Martin. Mbah a Moute is one of the better wing defenders in the league. Not a guy you can give heavy minutes to because he doesn't give you much of anything on offense, but defensively, he is everything we hoped Aminu would turn into. Of course...
you hearing any whispers about possible EG deals or is it just a pipe dream?
Haven't heard anything, and while I would certainly bet on a Rivers deal if I had to guess who gets moved between he and Gordon, I don't think trading Gordon is completely unrealistic. ...
Ryno for I don't know who, would have to be a 3, but I believe he's gone.
Have heard that he is not being shopped (that applies to both right now now as well as back on draft night), and that the Pelicans would have to be absolutely blown away by an offer in order to deal him. Not ...

After the Asik deal is completed, I may be able to answer this. I asked a similar question earlier today to someone familiar with the process, but I can't get any details until everything is finalized with the trade....

re: The worst deal in NBA history? - NOLATX
I'll be the first to admit that I reacted similarly to this column after my first read-through, but I have backed off since then to merely disliking it. Dan Feldman knows his stuff, but he may not have put forth the tone that he meant to display. He is right about the likelihood that the Pelican...
This one is about Thabo as an option coming to Nola LINK
"New Orleans certainly has several areas of need, be it their lack of a true center or their 18th in the league points per game average." Stopped reading after that. Pelicans were in the top half of the league ...

The number of people who fail to recognize this truly is amazing. Even actual radio personalities who "pride themselves" on their sports knowledge. For example, [link=(https://twitter.com/MasonGinsberg/status/447835390871748608)]check out this twitter "debate" I had[/link] with a friend of a friend ...

Just posted a column on BSS about Day 1 of the conference for those interested. Will do Day 2 soon, but the first day was the more NBA-heavy one (minus the Adam Silver/Malcom Gladwell one-on-one)....
Looks like Stan Van Gundy hates analytics
The sense that I got from him was not that he hates analytics. What SVG hates is the thought of using data in place of watching the games themselves. He hates "lazy analytics", so to speak. Use the numbers, but in the context of what you se...

re: MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference - NOLATX
He's best as a small ball 4 as you've pointed out many times. I wonder how a lineup of Rivers/Morrow/Babbit/Aminu/Ajinca would do. You've got spacing, a penetrator, decent rebounding and good enough defense, and Aminu and Babbit can switch on defense if needed.
I've argued for this...
