Pelicans and Flexing National Games

I did some digging around and figured I'd post what I learned regarding ESPN/TNT/ABC flexing Pelicans into the national TV spots. I was extremely uneducated on the matter myself.
It will be virtually impossible to flex TNT games and most ABC games. The problem lies in the fact that the Pelicans would have to have identical time slots on Thursday/Sunday, which they generally don't. This is done intentionally so there is no local competition for watching NBA nationally televised games.
ESPN is an entirely different matter as we've already seen this year (Mavs/Pels flex). It's my understanding that ESPN can flex any game they'd like as long as the time slots line up. This is obviously much easier with many more Wednesday/Friday games. ESPN will obviously weight the matchup vs what they currently have.
It's pretty simple stuff. I just found it interesting that the flexing is easier than I'd originally thought. I also think that games later in the year are actually more lenient with moving time slots on weekends. I think it will be a tough ask on weekdays. It's important that the fans show up for the national TV home games. AD will get the country in our building. Let's show them what NOLA's got. More so, in a league where public perception matters (large vs small markets, player endorsements), we don't need articles out there questioning why NOLA isn't supporting such a transcendent talent.
Bottom line: Get ready. AD has the country on notice. We will likely finish with I'd guess 5-8 more national games than we expected (not counting NBATV). Let's do our part.

It reminds me of the early CP3 era. We had very few national games, and Barkley outright said that TNT screwed up by not picking up a bunch of them and that he loved watching us play. He said last season that AD didn't deserve to be in the All Star game, then in the offseason said he was way off and simply said it because he hadn't seen him play enough.

This I can flap to.

I love Barkley.
Even when he is wrong...he is right lol.
I do not blame him. Think about how many good 4's are in this league and who on a national level would want to go out of their way to watch the Pelicans last season?
Struggling lower tier team with injuries galore and no national time slot games...just regional FS1 coverage.
That said...AD is the best 4 in the NBA today and is Definitely a Top 5 player making a case for Top 3 this season.

With the Knicks scheduled for 13 more national television appearances between ABC/ESPN and TNT and the equally dreadful Lakers scheduled for an ungodly 16 more, let’s hope the NBA and their television partners come to their senses and enact more flex scheduling throughout the season.
Dear infant baby Jesus get them off of tv.

In regards to getting local fan support...
Everybody on this board loves basketball. Thats why we are Pelicans fans. They are the basketball team we have. Saints fans arent just people that love football. Have you ever been to a Saints game? Half the people there have no idea what the frick is going on. They go there because, almost like no other team has, the Saints put the city on their back. When guys become Saints they embrace everything about this place.
Winning is definitely 95% of what puts arse in the seats, but if we want to have people there regardless of record, the organization needs to bond with the city. It takes time, and effective effort.

I'm not bashing the city and their support. What are we in the mid teens right now? That's fantastic considering we haven't done crap since Paul left. I'm simply stating that if you are going to go to a few games a year, consider trying to make the national games as they're more important than a locally televised game. I have friends that make around 5-6 per year, and I will try to steer them towards those games if they can. It's the little things that hopefully can add up.

I am at a stage of life now (kids) that puts me in the 3-6 times per year group, so I will try to accept the "national TV" challenge. It really does look better if the house is full for national games. Of course, so much of what you see is lower bowl, especially sideline. I wish those folks could get their tix used more. I know most of those seats are sold.

I'd rather the away games be on foxnola. Joel might be the best in the business and Wes is coming along nicely
together they make for a very enjoyable watch...unlike some of the TNT/ESPN "talent"
Plus...Jen!

The ABC games are flexed the same way NBC does Sunday Night Football. They did it with us in 08. Late season game against the Warriors was moved from early evening to noon for the national telecast
Rick Flair did the player intros that game

I remember that game... Late season is a different ball game. I think the NBA and the networks have more flexibility so they can televise relevant basketball as the playoffs approach. The difference between flexing NFL and NBA though is that NFL teams don't play on Saturday before the Sunday games. Playing a back to back Saturday and Sunday won't allow a game to get moved up, and there's 2 chances of that happening, one for each team. That's just an example.
