First time going, couples trip, no kids.

Don't forget to go to Alvin's Island and get an airbrushed t-shirt to commemorate the trip.
But really, I've always thought of Destin as being a place that you specifically go to be on the beach, not necessarily to "see the sights."
You could look into deep sea fishing if that's something your group would enjoy.

Rent a pontoon boat and some jet skis then spend the day out on crab island.

Is is wrong that I drag my wife and kids every year to get them? "Hey guys, it's raining, you know what that means. Let go across the street to Alvin's and get our Destin 2016 T-shirts"
It's now to simply annoy them.

Do this.

I'm sure you'll want to eat out every night; but, at least one evening, go down to the beach, & watch the sunset.
Cooler then, & you may still have a late dinner.

Not sure what you are looking for. The previously suggested crab island trip is a good idea.
We took that seablaster boat out for a combo sunset/dolphin cruise. Boat goes fast and they offer unlimited beer. Maybe wine too. The music is good and half the people end up dancing on the boat.
If you are kind of trashy and into the guido bar scene, I hear AJ's is fun at night.

this. it's horribly over developed and commercialized, but the water and beaches are very nice. food and drink, attractions, etc are an afterthought. I'd look into a charter or renting jet skis.

Can't say I agree there...if you want somewhere to just hang on the beach you can save time and money with places like Ft Morgan or Orang Beach. I would think Destin bette suits those looking for more than just hanging on the beach.

1. Beach front condo is a must.
2. Boshamp's was the best seafood restaurant I've been to in my life. I recommend snapper, raw oysters, and oyster boshamp.

Pontoon boat to crab island is the only must do
Love the beach & water but I forgot how many trashy rednecks swarm the beach. Can't wait to leave tomorrow

They have a McGuires in destin, so there's that. Pretty cool place. One of my favorite restaurants when I lived in pcola. I was rather fond of the Irish wakes

Most certainly crab island
Rum runners in sandestin can be fun, but the whole sandestin by Hilton is an obvious tourist trap
Boshamps for dinner
Play golf, golf now has some great deals on golf down there
The breakfast table for breakfast. Don't waste your time standing in line at the donut hole
The Red Door saloon at the wharf is a chill place to drink.
