Not sure, but I'm sitting on 890K Hilton points right now. My wife wants to go to Bora Bora.

Can you tell me a bit more about the peru trip? I'm planning to take a trip down there for 12 days around Christmas and NYE. Not sure the best points to use or try and get from now until then. Would like to also go to Brazil and then maybe a Central America country on the way back.

I've got some SPG points slated for a Montreal trip, and I've got UR points that I'm intending to use on a trip to Europe next year. Would be nice to have higher balances on more programs but I don't spend or churn enough to make that happen.

I don't even know anymore. Have 235k CUR and 45 SPG. But can't take long vacations which rules out a lot. Might as well just use them for small US/Canada based trips staying at nice places and getting good point value.

Hey man, I leave next Friday so I'll have more tidbits then.

I ended up using UR to fly TACA IAH to LIM then used British Avios to book LIM to Cusco RT, which is about the only damn time you can use Avis since AA award space is dogshit.

United has a non-stop from IAH but it was just long enough to be uncomfortable and I think they didn't have econ saver available, so I went business class on TACA with a connection in San Salvador. You could look into using UR to United to book Copa out of MSY connecting in Panama City as an option.

AA is supposed to have decent South America availability so it's an option.

I ended up burning off a ton of Avios on Palacio Del Inka since I've had little luck using them for domestic short haul because of AA availability being terribad.

Used Starwood points on Tambo Del Inka.

Also can use something like Arrival+ for the $400/$500 sign up bonus to use to offset stuff like the train to MP, hotels, etc.

I ended up booking a car to pick us up in Cusco to our hotel in Urubamba. Sure it cost like $30 more but we're landing at 7AM after skipping through Lima at 4AM and the last thing I want to do is negotiate. My wife is the negotiator overseas and she'd be grumpy

Planning on Vietnam in Feb, but just liquidated all my UR points on my recent Spain trip.

Hopefully I'll accumulate enough by then that I can get some free stays or something.

Would like em for the flight but doubt I'll have enough by the time I book that. Although I do have enough SW points to get me anywhere in the US. Usually I keep my eye out for super cheap international flights from other cities (MSY never has decent international flights) and use my SW points to get me there.

It's been a good strategy so far.

Log into United account and see if you spot the 70K offer banner. I think I had it on my account earlier this week but I've already had that card twice in the last four years so not eligible at the moment.

Though I will say if you time it right there are usually super cheap fares to places like Bangkok <$700 in econ.

About a dozen weddings/bachelor parties and such, unfortunately.

The worst!

I had to get pretty creative a couple years back when I had back to back weekend Boston weddings without the option of staying there the whole week.

What are the odds that I'd have one friend marrying a girl from Boston and my wife having a friend marrying a guy from Boston one week apart?

Just spent my 280,000 Hilton points at one of their resorts for four nights. Probably wasn't the best spend for value as it was only 4 nights, but it did save me from spending the $1650 on room.

Next fall will be our 20th anniversary and we are just trying for s simple Napa trip. I'm thinking of getting the Chase saphire next month and then the Marriott card a few months later. They are offering 80k bonus right now. With some spend on both. Arcs over next 9 months I'm sure we can get four nights and at least one flight paid for.
No huge trips yet as we like to take the kids on one or two trips a year

Does United fly to Vietnam? If so that would be convenient for my next card.

I'm seeing fares right now, LAX & SEA to Ho Chi Minh for $500 in Feb.

I've gotten a couple of emails also for similar fares around Vietnam. My dates are flexible so I can hunt for the best one. I'm gonna jump on one soon.

They may, but you aren't thinking broad enough.

They are part of Star Alliance, which means you can book reward seats on:

ADRIA Airways
Aegean Airlines
Air Canada
Air China
Air India
Air New Zealand
ANA
Asiana
Austrian
Avianca
Avianca in Brazil
Brussels Airlines
Copa Airlines
Croatia Airlines
EgyptAir
Ethiopian Airlines
EVA Airways
Juneyao Airlines
LOT Polish Airlines
Lufthansa
SAS
Shenzhen Airlines
Singapore Airlines
South African Airways
SWISS
TAP Portugal
THAI
Turkish Airlines
United® Airlines

That list is actually not exhaustive, since TACA (owned by Avianca) and similarly situated airlines aren't listed, but these will cover most of your needs. I've booked the bold in the past.

Ahhhhh, Ok. Yeah I know Asiana had some good prices to Ho Chi Minh, and yes United does fly to Vietnam also.

I just looked at my United account and yes I saw the 70k offer, but looking at some of the flights I don't like the redemption value if I'm looking at it right. You definitely get bang for your buck with the more expensive flights, but I'm flexible enough I can find the cheaper ones.

I just checked on Chase UR and can take the same United flights for under 40k points round trip. Booking directly through United it's 80k round trip.

I think I'm going to apply for the Chase Business Ink. It has an 80k bonus offer. That'd easily cover my flight and then some.

Yes, I wouldn't redeem for $500 econ flights.

I most definitely would redeem for business class to Asia. Totally worth it.

Found an error in United's search engine. Was able to get my return from Africa changed to biz class so not flying economy back on Ethiopian, thankfully.

New route is JNB-DAR-ZRH-JFK with first segment on South African and last two on Swiss. Already called and got our seats
