My options (I've been to most during the summer, only 1 in the winter)

Washington DC
New York
Boston
Chicago
Raleigh
Dallas

Going to take the S/O for a bit after Christmas for New Years. (essentially the 28th through the 2nd) Yes I know Times Square but both of us hates crowds so we probably wouldn't go to that.

Any of those options outside of Dallas would be a good choice.

Edit: Assuming you don't mind the cold, since most of the places you picked will definitely be cold at that time of year.

Kinda what I was thinking. We are doing NYC for a few days in December, since my wife wants to see the Christmas stuff. So, NYC would be my vote.

Well she wants to go somewhere with snow... All of those would be the options with Dallas having people to hang out with

There's definitely no guarantee you'll see snow in any of those cities, but very little chance of it being in D.C. at that time. In my experience, it's only snowed (enough for it to stick to the ground) once in the last 4 years in December in Boston.

If you want a guaranteed trip to see snow, but do want to go to a city, I'd say spend a day or two in Boston, and drive from there to NH or VT and stay up in the mountains for a couple days.

Yeah I hate snow, but if we go to Boston I have an excuse to go and try some breweries up that way. She likes going to hit up breweries and talking to locals luckily

Then I would definitely recommend a Boston/VT trip. Guaranteed snow and more great breweries than you'd have time to get to in 5 days even if you tried.

I think it will really come down to New York, Boston, and Washington DC

She does like to do the tourist stuff and has never been to any of these places. So she would want to do the history of each and DC/NY have more appeal for her. Chicago is out there because of another poster we hang out with who lived in Chicago and the way he talks it up she has mentioned wanting to go now.

Not on your list, but I just returned from Montreal and it would be a nice 4-5 day trip, particularly if snow-covered.

Yep--if she wants the full on snowy winter experience, Montreal is a great town.

After the 24hrs I spent there, I would call this a serious understatment. Froze my arse off!

Canada could be an option, maybe Toronto instead though

Montreal is a much better city to visit than Toronto. More charm, more culture, better food.

My wife went to Chicago last winter and really enjoyed it. It's a fun city and beautiful in the winter (if you can stand the cold, which I'm assuming isn't a problem).

if she's interested in history, boston or DC would be the 2 best bets. NY is awesome as well. Chicago is fine, but doesn't come close to the other 3 cities. 4-5 days is more than enough time to spend in both boston and DC, they're small cities. 4-5 days would only be scratching the surface in NY.

NYC is really fun at Christmas.

The stores like Cartier's, Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and other buildings are so festive.

Go see a broadway show. Go to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.

Can you or anyone explain to me what the draw is to NYC?
That is for a man specifically. I ask, because I've never had any interest to go there.
There are literally thousands of places I'd rather see/visit in the US.

I know it's not popular but StL is great to visit (not live.)
