Aria is great but I prefer the location of Venetian better.

If location is out, then Cosmopolitan, Wynn, Venetian, and Aria are top of the line

If you are spending any more than 6 hours per night in a bed in Las Vegas, then you aren't enjoying Las Vegas.

Exceptions can be made if hookers and blow are aplenty...then sleep really isn't gonna happen.

All my friends are telling me this.
Making my first trip in March and staying at the MGM Grand
Reading the reviews, it sounds like a below average hotel, but everyone is telling me that I won't be in my room except to sleep and shower

MGM is perfectly fine for a weekend Vegas trip. Place is massive though.

Also to OP--Aria.

Agreed, it's the only hotel in Vegas I think is too big. It takes forever to get around that place

MGM will have decently priced rooms but you will be in the old wing. That is ok until you have to walk forever. Place is humongous. Almost annoying.

ETA: By no means am I saying don't stay at the MGM. In fact stay at any hotel except the Excalibur, Luxor or Mirage. Rio, Venetion and Palazzo are all suite hotels. But, keep in mind, you'll barely stay in your room. Aria, Wynn etc are super nice hotels, but in LV, nice hotels don't amount to much. Service is impersonal. You'll be taken care of when you need anything no doubt, but it's not like a Ritz or a Waldorf (with the same rates). I LOVE Las Vegas. Most people do; so have fun and don't worry about the hotel.

August is hot but it's dry heat. Not nearly as bad as Louisiana in August imo. Also, book now direct through casino website and you can cancel 72 hours before checkin for free. So if you see better price somewhere else, cancel and rebook.

No reason to spend several unnecessary hundreds of books for a room you're just gonna pass out in anyway. Use that money for other fun things instead

MGM hasn't had the lions for over 5 years.

In order to answer the OP's questions more accurately, I'd need more information. Do you plan on gambling? If so, what do you play?

Without a gambling history, some casinos are better than others comping on the back end, but it depends what you play.

Las Vegas is one destination you should never book through a third party. A call to to the hotel directly, or to a casino host probably guarantees a better rate.
