So I'm starting this thread for posterity. Just arrived at the Taiwan International Airport and will be making the last leg of our journey in a couple hours.

I will do my best to post photos and reviews along the way.

Only update I have for the moment is that I've officially flown on international first class where the seats turn into beds, and I don't know how I can go back to my normal economy seating.

Edit: Now updating with pictures and review. Sorry it took so long to get this up.

Been to Bali twice , just wrote some tips for a buddy of mine .....Here you go

Taxis at airport should be 70,000 rupiah ($7 us dollars) from airport to kuta or seminyak for any taxi from airport no more and could be less

- they have a VOA visa on arrival you need to get at airport.... $25 US dollars must be paid per person

-don't exchange money at airport it's a ripoff wait til you get to where you staying ... If you must exchange get a very small amount

-main party places kuta and seminyak, best bars in kuta sky garden lounge, bounty, mbargo. I enjoyed sky garden the best

-seminyak bars a bit more upscale and shopping

-take a trip to ubub and tour markets and villages and monkey forest and rice fields there , drive just up road to mt Batur and kintamani area. Try the Babi Gulig (suckling pig) @ ibu oka or a restaurant there that has it

-2nd trip...go to lake Bratan and git git waterfalls, then tanah lot temple

- go see ulu watu temple and kecak dance on south most tip of Bali where high cliff is overlooking sea) great place for sunset

- most nightlife doesn't get started til 11-12

-kuta good place to learn to surf

-Menjangan island best island for snorkeling diving

-should be able to rent a taxi for a day for no more than 500,000 rupiah ($50 US dollars) for tours on island

-if you like climbing or want a beautiful sight to see on a relatively easy volcano to climb try mt bratur... If interested I have more info about it so ask me

-good whitewater rafting in ubud area

-didn't get to see it but I heard buffalo race in Negata is nice

Let me know if I can help you any further or if you have any questions. Have a great trip.

I went three years ago and loved it. I got into a somewhat serious motorbike accident the first day and had to get 11 stitches in my leg so I couldnt swim but the beaches, culture and scemery were awesome and made up for it.

You will fly into denpassar which is a pretty big city of about three million. You really want to get out of denpassar but its good for a night. Go to ubud at the middle of the island for balinese culture. I rented a car and drove there. Warning- its annoying driving stick on the left hand side of the road.

Uluwatu temple is the oldest temple on the island. Really beautiful view from the cliff its on. Everyone in Bali is Hindu but it is a differemt sect of Hinduism tham India. I was attacked by a monkey there that stole my sunglasses off my face.

I went to candidasa after that which is off yhr beaten path kind of. Really beautiful to go to the other beaches on the island that are more remote. Also visit the volcano.

I recommend going to the Gili islands as well. Pretty good scuba diving and you can see komodo dragons on one of the islands and sometimes feed them. Bali is kind of like australia's version of cancun so you will see trashy, drunk australians everywhere. Several bars with australian football jerseys and memorabilia scattered about playing the games. Surfing is also big in Bali. They get great waves. Kuta is the place to surf

Ya you're screwed. Should have seen the tussle I just had today with my wife to take one more day off work so I could get business class seats on our next trip

Yeah I may have been a bit overly-ambitious and excited when I started this thread.

Will do a review, but there's a lot to cover so it'll take some time. Probably won't get to it until I get home...may type it out on the plane ride home.

Currently sitting on my front porch enjoying a cocktail.

What does a $2000 round trip flight ticket get you? Standard economy seat, or is there a little more room than normal? I'm 6'-2" and don't think I could sit in a standard seat for that duration.

Our flights were only $1350 RT with China Airlines. That got us their premium economy class for the Los Angeles to Taipei leg, which has more legroom, width, can recline further, and is basically the same as first class on domestic flights in the U.S. Then we were in business class from Taipei to Denpasar, Bali.

I'll be looking forward to your review. We're also planning our honeymoon and have looked into the Caribbean, Belize and Costa Rica. Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines are all on my bucket list, so we're considering these for a honeymoon also.

Did a search last night, and there are a lot of nice resorts in Bali for not too much. And im sure food and everything else is cheap. Where are you staying when you go?

Also, is it common or worth it to stay at a beach location for a few days then somewhere more inland for a few days? I was looking at doing this if going to Belize or Costa Rica
