re: Experienced sailors in here? - elleshoo9
I sail competitively and for recreation out of SYC in NOLA. I'd recommend checking with Murray Yacht Sales. I know they have classes and certifications, but they can get expensive. I think most charter companies will force you to take a captain until you prove you know what you are doing, unless...

re: Alabama man pleads guilty in wedding day car crash that kills attorney - elleshoo9
I know him and his family as well as the Sarpy family. He does have some sort of mental issue, maybe somewhere on the autistic scale like aspergers. I'm not sure. He definitely has enough mental capacity to understand the significance of what he did though. Knowing his brother too, I'm not sure how ...

re: Hashtagging your child's name on social media- ok or not? - elleshoo9
I know two girls that have both created Instagram accounts for their babies. So they have an account for themselves and for their babies, and they log in and post from their babies' accounts as if the baby is posting. They are bat shite crazy attention seeking women...

Bareboat Charter Locations - NON BVI - elleshoo9
Spinoff from the BVI bareboat thread... I've done a bareboat charter in the BVI three times now. Love it, but it seems to be getting more popular with social media. We went in June which is low season, and while it wasn't packed, it certainly wasn't empty either. What are some other destinatio...

Yea during the walkthrough before you leave the base, they can tell whether or not you know what you're doing just by how you move around on a boat......

re: Bare boat charters in the BVI - elleshoo9
Let's put it this way. My dad has chartered with no captain two or three times before with other companies. This time, we went with TMM charters and they put a captain on the boat for the first day. It could also have been that my dad didn't fluff up his sailing resume enough....

re: Bare boat charters in the BVI - elleshoo9
We started at the Indians for snorkeling, then to Soper's Hole for night 1. Day 2 Sandy Cay, then to Great Harbor on Jost, taxied to Soggy Dollar. I recommend taxi there as White Bay can get very crowded on the weekend. If you want less touristy/American crowd at Soggy Dollar, go on a weekday. ...

re: Bare boat charters in the BVI - elleshoo9
I just got back from my third bareboat trip here with my family. First two times, we got monohulls. This time we got a cat. We are all experienced sailors and the first two trips were just direct family. This third trip, we had my brothers new wife and my girlfriend, so we decided to get the cat ...

re: can anyone offer any input into the quality of living in Pensacola? - elleshoo9
Yea it sounds like what I'm looking for. I'm from NOLA and I've lived the post grad party life in NOLA. I'm kinda ready for something different for a few years, something a little quieter but still with stuff to do. There are several job postings for process/manufacturing engineers at the plants...

re: can anyone offer any input into the quality of living in Pensacola? - elleshoo9
Thanks. I don't mind the tourists so much as the lack of infrastructure/cleanliness and abundance of crime in NOLA. Pensacola is an old historical town, close to the water and beaches, with a few chem plants where I might be able to get a job. Cost of living would also be lower in FL which is gr...

There are three plants in the area, and several job postings. I haven't applied to anything though. I'm assuming PCola is better/nicer than Mobile?...

can anyone offer any input into the quality of living in Pensacola? - elleshoo9
As a follow-up to the up and coming cities thread, can anyone offer any input into the quality of living in Pensacola? Housing prices, crime, things to do, pros and cons, etc. GF (no pics) and I are considering making a change and getting out of NO/LA for a few years. We are in our mid to upper 2...

re: Question About Obama's New Overtime Pay Rule - elleshoo9
Pretty sure he has authority under the original fair labor standards act to regulate overtime (via the DOL). Not that I agree with what he did but he does have the authority.
This scares the shite out of me that one branch of the government has this much authority, whether it is a...

Question About Obama's New Overtime Pay Rule - elleshoo9
Sincere question: ignoring the economic impacts that the new overtime pay rule will have, can someone explain what legal authority the Obama administration has to make a rule like this. Is it even enforceable? Sounds like just another decree by the king to me. [link=(https://www.washingtonpost.co...

re: Middle Class Vanishing from US Cities - elleshoo9
Companies will never reinvest where the people don't have money to buy their product.
They're selling their products globally, not just where the product is produced. Hence manufacturing is going to countries where it is cheaper to produce, i.e. Mexico, China/Asia, etc. Or at lea...

Middle Class Vanishing from US Cities - elleshoo9
[link=(http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2016/05/the_middle_class_is_vanishing.html#incart_river_home)]LINK[/link] The study finds that more people exiting the middle class are moving up above the middle class than moving down below the middle class bracket. This sounds like positive progres...
