What is the "alt-right"? - elleshoo9
Probably Germans but IDGAF. Can someone explain/define what the alt-right is and who would fall under this classification? I'd like to know if I am one or not to know whether or not I should be triggered by the term ...

re: Investing $375K Inheritance - elleshoo9
He's close to 70. Y'all have all brought up good things to consider. I think i would suggest to him to fix up his current house, then sell everything and take the cash and live our your retirement the way you want to. Whether that be a dream home or traveling or whatever. He's a tight pocketed g...
So what is the goal, have parents live out retirement comfortably and in a 1 story house or use grandmother's inheritance to launch a real estate business? To be clear, both are noteworthy and prudent ideas.
I'm not sure, I'm just bouncing off ideas...

re: Investing $375K Inheritance - elleshoo9
I agree, I was staying out of it until my sister asked me to consider this idea. I think she is prying a little more than she should. While I want my father's money to grow for my own future inheritance, I don't need it or assume/expect anything of him...

re: Investing $375K Inheritance - elleshoo9
Good advice, thanks guys. I don't really know what my dad's plans are, and to be honest I don't care that much. It's his retirement, he can do what he wants. I don't assume any inheritance is coming my way, I don't think it is right to plan my life that way. He has indicated that he's ready to r...

re: Investing $375K Inheritance - elleshoo9
I'm not sure I follow. I would suggest he hire a property management company to run and maintain the rental. What is the risk: that we can't find tenants? The main premise behind the idea is that assuming he can buy-out his sister's side of the smaller house, he would have two properties in uptow...

re: Investing $375K Inheritance - elleshoo9
The remodel and then renting out could become a major boondoggle. I'd invest in an index fund or something until he's ready to retire.
It could be a hassle, but assuming he does not need the additional money for retirement, it could be set up as a family business, using rental inco...

Investing $375K Inheritance - elleshoo9
I am looking for suggestions to give to my father to invest some inheritance he will be getting. Background: his mother recently passed away, leaving ~$750K worth of bonds to my dad and his sister. My grandmother also had a nice 2 BR house one block off St. Charles in New Orleans, probably close ...

re: This is life on $7.50 an hour - elleshoo9
I made a thread awhile back about living on min wage. [link=(http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/politics/how-to-live-on-minimum-wage-and-escape-poverty/61628272/)]LINK[/link] In most cases, the only thing holding a person back is the choices he or she makes in life. The most significant detriment...

re: Spin-Off: BS in Engineering Paired with MBA - elleshoo9
Good advice, thanks. I guess I'm pretty limited in New Orleans when it comes to a PMBA with Tulane being the only good one in the area. Lynx, I saw a ranking earlier showing LSu MBA slightly higher than Tulane. Thoughts? ...

re: BS in Engineering Paired with MBA - elleshoo9
Being in engineering, how important would you say it is to network directly with classmates in a traditional MBA setting as opposed to networking with engineering professionals while pursuing an online MBA from a solid name program?...
Tulane Freeman PMBA sounds pretty ideal for you if you are willing to pay for it.
Average GMAT score of 575 seems low, don't you think? [link=(http://freeman.tulane.edu/sites/g/files/rdw641/f/pictures/pmba-info-admissions_0.png)]LINK[/link]...

Well it wouldn't be 100% free. Depending on the program, I'd probably have to pay 33-50% of the cost. ...
I don't really see the point of the thread then... If it's free, and you just want the certificate, then go do it??
The point of the thread was asking other engineers how obtaining an MBA affected their careers. Read the OP. The thread has since been hijacked to talked about how on...
No offense meant to the OP, but he is really missing the boat on the reason for getting a MBA. I agree with all that you posted above.
Taking this new job and staying in New Orleans, there aren't many quality local options for a part time MBA. LSUTOM07, did your UGA PMBA open d...

re: Spin-Off: BS in Engineering Paired with MBA - elleshoo9
I've looked at Tulane and it would be way more money out of pocket for me. I will only get $7500 in reimbursement per year, and the nice thing about an online program is I can string it out and make the most of the reimbursement. ...

re: Spin-Off: BS in Engineering Paired with MBA - elleshoo9
Well the reason I'm considering getting one is the $7500 per year reimbursement from my new employer. I'm not doing a full time MBA because that would require quitting work for a couple years and pay for it on my own. It's not ticking a box for me, it's learning whatever an MBA teaches you. I un...

Yea I start my new job in a couple weeks, so starting to research online MBA's. Looking for high ranking vs cost, as the company tuition reimbursement won't cover everything. Also planning on taking the PE in Spring 2017, then pursuing MBA....
