I'm building a website with WordPress and am looking for the best web host.

I know some hosts are specifically catered for WordPress, would this be the way to go? Or does it really matter?

Also, what features should I be looking for and willing to pay for? There's so many options it's hard to choose.

TIA

I haven't done a lot of research on this, but when it comes to using WordPress, there probably isn't much difference between any of the hosting companies that use cPanel. The main difference is going to be in price and uptime reliability.

Earlier this year I switched from webhostingpad to ehost, mainly because of price. I had an introductory price for 5 years that was up, so I switched. The only problem I had in that 5 years was they changed the server address on me without telling me one time.

I use namecheap as my domain registration company.

I have several sites on InMotion, I like that they have US based customer support.

That's one I've seen highly recommended.

Any gripes?

JuanandJuan is who I use. It's decent, but the tech support nerds are in the Philippines so it's sometimes hard to speak with them. Overall great service though.

I've used host gator for years with no problems. Simple, easy to use. Cheap. Just like I like my women.

I've been very happy with inmotion so far, been with them about 6 months. I use WordPress and then look for themes I like. The pivot theme was the last one I picked up.

Hostgator

WPEngine if you do need something on the high end side of the scale.

I have a few Wordpress websites hosted on Hostgator and Bluehost. I would recommend both. I had hired a few programmers from India to work on development and I wanted the security of having a second host to have them work on that is why I am using two hosts.

No, Heroku and DigitalOcean require software development knowledge. Not good for Wordpress

Depends on what you need. I use both Bravenet and 1and1. I really like both for what each provides. With 1and1 I have a pretty decent price for a VPS for my main site and they have excellent customer service. With Bravenet, I have some really good shared hosting with a lot of options. You can build multiple sites using either their inline site builder or through more traditional means like WordPress or hand coding if you choose, but their support is very limited.

I recommend Rochen for a few reasons.

CMS sites, because of their dynamic nature, are slow loading. Rochen uses SSD RAID 10 storage which significantly improves load times.

Under my old host (an EIG company), if one of my websites became infected with malware, my entire account (all my websites) were shutdown. Rochen isolates each website so they don't impact each other.

The primary reason I left my old host was because they were slow to adopt the latest version of PHP. This limited what CMS I could run. Rochen supports the older versions of PHP that my old sites require and the latest version that my new sites require.

I had InMotion Hosting for a few years with a premiere account where I could develop many websites. Every website I created was painfully slow no matter what I did. Moved everything over to SiteGround and everything works as it should. I like SiteGround.

Depends on how much you want to manage. For clients who want zero hassle I put them on a fully managed host like Wordpress.com. Personally I use hostgator for things I manage and develop.
