Really been getting jacked by ATT lately with their uverse internet. I have this in my office and I'm lucky to get 2.5 down and .5 up.

I have been looking into Cox and they promise me 25/5 and they are really pushing me to get their VOIP phones in a bundled package. I have 4 phone lines and they are critical for my business.

Anyone have any experience lately with Cox's VOIP phones for a business? Is it reliable? What happens in the case of a power outage, generally regular phones still work.

If I go ATT for phones and Cox for internet it will cost substantially more and I was trying to keep costs similar and have a more reliable internet.

TIA for any comments.

The internet speeds are a whole lot better that AT&T even if you don't get the full 25/5. I think that's what we have but half of us are streaming music or doing something to bring the download speeds closer to about 12 but the uploads are very good.

The only real issue is loss of service and that's both phone and internet. Happens more often than with AT&T (maybe every other month) but they usually don't last long if they even take place during business hours and we're still much happier with Cox.

If the power goes out, the phones stop working. The modem/gateway is required for them to work. Generally they'll give you a backup battery connected to it, but that won't last more than a couple hours at best.

However, the same applies to U-Verse and any other voip service., unless you're actually on an oldschool landline rather than voip through their gateway.

Good call. Forgot to mention we have all of our equipment in the tech closet on a UPS.

Phones are land lines so if power goes out, they will still work with ATT.

I have a friend that has a pharmacy in Town Center BR and she went with Cox for phone and internet when she opened her business a few years ago. She was open for about a year and ran into someone socially that was a nurse at OLOL hospital and mentioned that she had tried to call in prescriptions to her pharmacy and never got through. The phones would ring but never an answer. Apparently, none of the phone exchanges from the area around the OLOL hospital or medical building could ring through.

Cox eventually fixed it but it caused her a ton of business.

This goes for any phone service that is not an analog phone line. All these companies are trying to phase analog lines out as much as possible.

And they will be phased out. Along with DSL and even DOCSIS. Time to jump on the IP bandwagon.

Not sure if they can 100% phase it out.

We just built a new corporate office and were required to have 2 analog lines for the fire alarm.

I deal with both ATT and Cox on a daily basis. If you are considering getting Cox's hosted phones, I would highly recommend NOT getting them. They basically pushed that product out because they had to compete with other hosted products and it's garbage. Also, none of the local techs even know how to work on it. Now if you are just getting lines from them, Cox is great! If you can and its not to expensive for the construction, try to get on their fiber. The uptime is ridiculously good and you don't have the same "problems" as on coax. The coax service is still good and all their units have a battery backup. We definitely recommend Cox over ATT to all of our customers.

Cox installs and maintains the phone system.

Then this post confuses me. First he said don't get Cox hosted lines and then later in the post he says he recommends them to all his ATT customers.

So, in order to keep my costs about the same as they are now, I would have to get the bundled package with Cox. Phones are the lifeblood of my practice, if they don't work, my business grinds to a halt.

Internet is also important, but I am getting absolute shite from ATT. I guess I could just keep the bundled ATT, with the crappy uverse as a backup and get the Cox internet, but that will increase costs by about $150/mos.

Does cox have fiber in BR?

I've had Cox with VOIP for 5 phone lines for several years now. Never had any real issues with them.

Phones go down when power goes down. But the whole phone system itself goes down anyway.

That's because Uverse is a shitty residential service and has no place in businesses with their jacked up modems. frick AT&T in the face.

No. He said don't get Cox's hosted phone SYSTEM. Don't get the phone system and phones that Cox supplies and manages. Their phone lines/service is just fine.

That's sounds great. Are you in BR and what type of business do you have.
