Can you blame them. I mean they had a 4" phone in their pocket just 5 days ago. It's Apple's fault for not educating them on how to carry around a 5.5" phone.

FWIW, I have dent in my iPhone 5 from running into the cattle guard on my expedition. I didn't blog about how the aluminum back was flawed because of what happened and exclaim apple to be doomed because of it.

I dropped my iphone 5 from about 20 feet up onto concrete and it bent. Everything was fine, screen and all, but it bent the subframe pretty good. The top left looks like it folded back and there's a big pressure dent under the glass on the back. Pretty cool.

If the phone is bending by just sitting in a pocket, then yes, it's a horrible flaw. However, I guarantee that these phones were hit, banged or put under some unnatural stress that did not occur by just sitting in a pocket.

I don't hate on Apple on here and I see this as a definite design flaw if after 1 week of use the phone is conforming to the pocket shape.
And I'm not an Apple fanboy. Even the 5/5s bent in peoples pockets. You can find the blogs/forums that claim that. But now its a bigger, thinner phone. And people are surprised that it happens more when people try to sit with these things?

And there are reports out there of samsung screens cracking from pressure (since the plastic is more flexible) in a pocket. It just seems like a non-story to me since 1) this is how metal works and 2) we're talking about idiots who keep their 6" phone in a tight pocket while sitting. If it's enough pressure to bend it, that's a really tight squeeze.

Definitely wasn't trying to start a fanboi argument. This was after one day of use. I am by no means an Apple hater as I use many of their products.

This is a huge flaw and had to have been overlooked. My One Plus One is huge and fits into my pocket without bending just fine. In get wanting to be thin and sleek looking, but you still have to keep functionality at the top.

I have a hard time believing that these people didn't know the phone was bending as its happening.

They should feel the pressure against their body at the very least.

I feel my phone in my pocket all the time but that doesn't make me think something is wrong with it.

I would rather not have to monitor what my pocket could be doing to my phone.

I'm sure anecdotally many people can say the same about their new iPhones. There aren't 10+ million One Plus One's out there and it certainly isn't click bait like iPhones are.

According to the size of the phone and most pockets?

He's saying these people had to feel it bending or the pocket putting undue stress on it.

If it fits fine, then it won't bend.

I'd say this is certainly news. I am still on the fence on whether I want to get the new iPhone or not, as I'm sure many others are. If there is a problem coming forward with the new models, I'd like to know about it before dropping so much money on one.

wizz mentioned the HTC One not bending... it does. Just google it. But none of these phones have the saturation and publicity that the iPhone get. So any perceived "flaw" gets overblown because it means clicks for these websites and talking points on their forums. color has a point. They tried to make a big deal of the antenna a few years ago. That was nothing. There's always something people look for with iPhones. I guess because I have a physics degree, I'm numb to this being such a shock. I know I wouldn't sit down with any of those big phones in my pocket.

Stepping in for three things:

1. I see the fandroids are stepping in to LOL like little girls

2. I see the Apple fanbois stepping in to "NBD" a large flaw

3. Show my disappointment. I just got off the iPhone 4 for the Lumia 1020 and while I love the camera it offers, I miss the rest of my iPhone. Strongly considering switching back to apple, but id want the 6+ so this is disappointing. Think this is something that will be addressed soon? Or not till the 6+S or 7?

I was hoping they would drop the 6+ with the Sapphire glass in the next 6 months and was contemplating waiting for that anyway.

He's right, though, and I'm not an Apple person. Every year, there's a witch hunt. Apple is the most scrutinized of all the smartphone makers. Not because they release poor products, but because they are a popular, highly polarizing brand, and it makes for great headlines and click bait. Just google [insert phone brand] broke in pocket.

Or replace "broke in pocket" with "flaws" or "fragile" and see what happens. Everyone everywhere has something shitty to say about a particular consumer electronic product. But the actual shittyness of the product has little to do with how newsworthy the topic is. I worked in publishing for a few years, and I was editor-in-chief for a couple of those years, long enough to know that if I were given the choice between two stories -- for example, one about two huge flaws in the latest Android-based phone of any brand, and one about a single huge flaw in the latest iPhone -- the iPhone story would be the instant winner, or else I'd get a WTF e-mail from the publisher.

It's really just a matter of news outlets mutually agreeing on what generates clicks, and there are more iPhone users than there are users of any other specific line of smartphones. Just like McDonald's gets attacked and sued from every angle about their food being unhealthy, while the rest of the fast food industry conducts business as usual. McDonald's suffers the unfortunate side effects of being the face of fast food. And like it or not, the iPhone is still the face of smartphones.

I will be surprised if this bending issue turns out to be anything bigger than this week's headline.

of course. denying so is pure retardation.

however, the question remains: is this truly a design flaw or a user problem?

we do not have enough information to say one way or another.

Agree. Could be a Fubar by Apple. Could be typical user error. Need more info.
