Yeah I figured as much. I probably would have been fired by now

I have to admit, I've been an irresponsible geek. Beyond making sure I'm not jailbroken I don't really know what it's doing.

Only by the new folks. The ones that have been here for a while know better. I worked customer helpdesk for an ISP for about 5 years, that was a completely different situation. Anything they could possibly blame on us, they did. I had a lady call one day about how our software crashed her computer. She hadn't even unwrapped the CD nor put it in the computer but somehow it was our fault that when she got home with her CD her computer wouldn't start up.

Dealing with private customers is orders of magnitude better than dealing with the general public.

It is better now since we are dealing with actual employees and not the general public. BUT we still get blamed for stuff even before there is any proof who it was. So, I agree completely. I am just glad I like what I do.

all it really can do is restrict app downloads, provide access to interprise content (sharepoint, etc) and allow remote wiping, etc and like you said, check for general config and rooting.

Best part of my job is telling people I know they haven't rebooted their equipment.

You would have to understand the satisfaction I get when someone smugly tells me they've already rebooted their equipment. That the techs always ask them to reboot, but it never does anything. Then I check uptime and tell them I know they haven't rebooted it. Then force them to reboot while I watch and then it magically starts working.

That and I really hate people now.

It's amazing how when you remove people from the equation, technical problems disappear.

Learning python is great for GIS as well. Exporting scripts from model builder will help you learn structure.

I'm actually looking to move back to Baton Rouge, so if you're looking to hire, let me know. 20 years experience in tech support.
