MS Access and SQL Server
Not an IT professional (yet), but in the field I'm at (GIS), knowledge of those 2 are pretty damn essential (esp. for Spatial Databases/Geodatabases).

Not in IT currently but most of my college/early post grad experience is in Help Desk Support. I don't have any formal training but just learned by trial and error. I also have amazing problem solving skills. Really wouldn't mind getting back in that field.
Currently I do some "on the side" for friends

I manage a group of IT ninjas that run the servers, storage, network, VOIP, DBs, and websites for a government agency...I just try to stay out of their way and make sure they have the resources and training required to do what they need to do.

Does your help desk get blamed for everything that goes wrong? Because we do.

Only by the new folks. The ones that have been here for a while know better. I worked customer helpdesk for an ISP for about 5 years, that was a completely different situation. Anything they could possibly blame on us, they did. I had a lady call one day about how our software crashed her computer. She hadn't even unwrapped the CD nor put it in the computer but somehow it was our fault that when she got home with her CD her computer wouldn't start up.
Dealing with private customers is orders of magnitude better than dealing with the general public.

Huh, I wouldn't have guessed that. For some reason I always thought GIS folks used proprietary stuff.
That's good information to know for the future
