I cut Dtv in March and have lived with antenna, sling tv, netflix and kodi since. However, I had to uncut yesterday because the wife was not a fan of having to switch between inputs/devices, etc. Also the sling never worked quite as well as a cable box with the buffering, errors, etc. (although I could have lived with it). I was able to get a good deal with comcast though so i'm only paying about $30 extra over what i had. Also the X1 setup is legit and will be nice for football season

Anyone else had to uncut the cord?

my cousin did the same thing, his brother and I however held our ground and told the wives to suck it up and get use to it, it took another 6-8 months after that point, but they did, and we are good now.

I thought Kodi was supposed to be the universal interface for all of your different streams? What were you having to switch between? There definitely needs to be a universal hub before cord cutting can main stream.

Sling TV was first to market, but be patient. There will be improvements as the competition heats up. Sony Vue will be available to the masses fairly soon, and there will be more to follow.

Eventually the whining about the loss of HGTV goes away as they find other distractions on Hulu and Amazon.

You missed out on the one thing that saved this trouble, a really good remote. I have my $70 Harmony programmed so that whatever my wife wants, she pushes one button and it handles the devices, tv input, and audio input. Even my 2 y/o can switch from TV to netflix.

I'm fortunate that my wife doesn't really watch TV. She watches Netflix on the iPad and that's about it.

the reason i have not cut anything.

and i have all the streaming shite, harmony remote, etc. Harmony remote usually helps a lot, but i still get a picture of the TV on the wrong input with 'help!'.

I'd rather spend an extra $100 a month to not spend more of my time at home as 'tech support'

it ain't directv only goes up $10 after 1 year. i'll call after 2 and get it readjusted down (although it's harder with comcast than dtv)

Me too. i was a pretty early cord cutter (like 3-4 yrs ago). Cox started throttling my Internet so i made the switch to Fios.

Verizon offered us basic cable plus HBO and Showtime for 2 years for only $7 more per mo. than what they charge for 50/50 Internet.

I still torrent and access most of my content from AppleTV, but its nice having cable sometimes. I will drop the cable in a heartbeat in a year and a half when the offer runs out if they try to jack my rates.

I did the same with KODI/XBMC, an antenna, Rokus and a friend's HBO and ESPN sign on for a year or 2. It worked great, and I'd recomment it to anyone who either doesn't watch much TV or really wants to save some cash.

Funny thing is, I put off cord cutting for a while as I didn't think my wife would like the hassle of switching back and forth between all of these devices. Turns out she loved it, and was 10 times better than me at using XBMC and was against uncutting, but I eventually overruled

I eventually uncut the cord as it was just not worth the hassle for me. It does take a bit more work. And something simple like just putting it on Shark week and half watching here and there for a couple of hours a night you can't really do that with XBMC.

Plus it's more work for live sports, and I really missed the DVR aspect of live sports.

All in all, cord cutting is solid, but I don't mind paying for DirecTV I have now. I like em both.

It can be, but it's also a bit of work to find live streams if you want to watch something live. It's not always reliable, and you likely won't find it in the same quality as you would if you had the antenna hooked up for, say, an NFL game on Fox.

But if you have an antenna, a Roku/Apple TV, and Kodi(what I had), it can be a hassle when you're so used to cable.

I cut and don't plan to go back, but I did just do the free trial for asking. I'm finding it incredibly laggy at points, but not awful. I do t think I'll keep it.

As for devices, my XB1 controls absolutely everything I use, so that's something to look into if you would use it. It does cost quite a bit though.

It's not this easy. So far I've tried to get 3 different women (mother, girlfriend, step daughter) of different ages used to the harmony remote. It's been 8 months and they still dont know how to use it.

It's not the switching inputs that is hard. It's if you hit the button by accident while laying on it. If it gets out of whack women simply cannot get it back on track.

Is there a way to get HGTV and Food Network after cutting the chord? Those are the two channels the wife won't live without. It's non-negotiable.

KNow this all too well. We've had a Chromecast since they came out and I've shown her 100 times how to get Netflix on the TV with it. Still have to help her. It blows her mind she can't pause it with the DirecTV remote.
